Buck Creek Township extends its sincere gratitude to Captain Nick Baker for his exceptional 24 years of dedicated service. Since joining the department in 1997 as a cadet, Captain Baker has contributed to significant growth, from single-person stations to today’s robust crews of over ten personnel per shift. His commitment and leadership are deeply appreciated.

🚨We’re thrilled to announce a significant milestone for the Buck Creek Township Fire Department🚨Chief Andy Ebbert has been appointed as our first-ever Fire Marshal. This milestone highlights our commitment to enhancing fire safety and prevention within our community.A lifelong resident of Shirley and a graduate of Eastern Hancock High School, Chief Ebbert is deeply dedicated to serving his community. He began his firefighting career as a volunteer with the Shirley Fire Department in 1992, where he served as Fire Chief for 20 years. Additionally, Chief Ebbert earned an associate degree in public safety from Ivy Tech Community College. He also spent 25 years with the Fishers Fire Department, where he served as a Lieutenant for eight years and was a member of the Fishers Rescue Task Force and Honor Guard.The tradition of community service runs deep in Chief Ebbert’s family. It began with his father in 1977 and continues with Chief Ebbert, his brother, and both of his daughters actively serving their communities today.Chief Ebbert is married to Shantelle, and they have two adult daughters and a one-year-old granddaughter. He is an active member of the Greenfield Church of Christ and the founder of the Shirley Community Visionaries, a group that has secured grants and initiated projects such as building a trail, improving Shirley Park, and restoring a 1910 railroad caboose for the Shirley Historical Museum. Chief Ebbert has also contributed to various advisory groups through the Community Foundation of Hancock County.As Fire Marshal, Chief Ebbert will be responsible for:• Conducting fire investigations• Developing and implementing fire prevention programs• Inspecting buildings for fire code compliance• Educating the public about fire safety“For the last 32 years, I have been privileged to serve as a first responder in several different roles. I look forward to the opportunity to focus on fire prevention and safety issues. The Township has seen significant growth in recent years, and I am honored to serve with the men and women of the Buck Creek Township Fire Department,” said Chief Ebbert.Please join us in welcoming Chief Ebbert to the Buck Creek Township Fire Department family!
